Eau Claire Boys

In 1959, the Scouts changed their name to Eau Claire Boys Drum & Bugle Corps. For the next 10 years, the ECB traveled throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Iowa, with trips as far as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Canada.

The uniforms & Aussie-style hats were picked out by Walt Brown, apparently influenced by the Scout House Bugle Band of Preston, Ontario. In addition, the ECB marching style - incorporating an exaggerated arm swing - was influenced by Scout House.

JANUARY 1967

Please note that the first meeting of 1967 for the parents of the Eau Claire Boys will be held on Thursday. January 26, at Central Jr. High cafeteria at 7:45 p.m. This was changed from the third Thursday to the fourth Thursday, for this month only, because several Board members are working the evening shift, including Mr. Brown, the third week. If possible, the completed films of a Brazilian parade, with drum & bugle corps, will be shown. Mr. Brown will have a partial list of 1967 corps appearances.

All good wishes and congratulations to Lamont Page, Jr., A Corps director, as he graduates from Wisconsin State University, Eau Claire and begins his duties as director of the Bloomer High School band. He and his family will move to Bloomer on January 21. He will continue as A Corps director.

The invitations for 1967 appearances are coming in every day, and some commitments have been made. Perhaps we can have a partial listing in the next Newsletter. Be prepared for a busier summer than ever.

For information only - if you didn’t attend the last parents meeting - the members present decided against undertaking selling tickets and ushering at the appearance of the Harlem Globetrotters on Dec. 27. The main reason for this is that it had been decided at an earlier meeting that the organization would not undertake any selling projects other than our own.

The bake sale held at the Co-op on December 16 netted $61.80. Only 22 families made a contribution. If anyone would still like to make a donation of $2.00, please send it to Mrs. Blaeser, who acted as chairman, or bring it with you to the meeting on Jan. 26.

$71.10 was the profit made on the Bazaar Day stand, as reported by chairman Mike Lee.

The candy sale proved not as profitable as could be expected. If there is any candy or money out, Please get it in immediately!!! There is still candy available. It is the responsibility of all of us to get rid of it.

Gordon Moan has been appointed to fill out the unexpired term of Keith Reiter on the Board of Directors. He will act as treasurer. Harland Mattison is filling the vacancy left by Jerry Ambers on the Board. He is in charge of building maintenance.

Mr. Brown received a Christmas card from Gordon Edington in Vietnam. The card was addressed to the boys that are now members of the Corps.

“To the Boys:

“Well here I am in So. Vietnam - wish I was with you. Keep practicing and make it good next year - I mean better than last year.

“You are a bunch of swell guys. Keep up the tradition of the “Ambassadors of Good Will” and always be known as the greatest in the hearts of your followers. May God keep you all.”

How about it gang! Write to him and let him know how you feel.

Thanks for the message, Gordy. We are all thinking of you and wishing you well!!

We have received a check from the ladies of the V.F.W. for the boys. This check represents the proceeds of the meal that they served to the visiting corps during the “Drums on the Chippewa” contest. How about that! They not only served one of the finest meals to our guests, but turn around and donate the proceeds back to the corps. This is without a doubt one of the finest Christmas gifts I have ever received.

W.E. Brown
